E-waste recycling: Fraunhofer UMSICHT at the IERC 2019 in Salzburg, Austria
From 16 to 18 January 2019, the participants of the IERC in Salzburg will once again be treated to an extensive programme. On the agenda are over 25 lectures, a round table, workshops and three factory tours at Montanwerke Brixlegg AG, the Austrian recycling group Müller-Guttenbrunn GmbH and voestalpine Stahlwelt.

The congress will be accompanied by an exhibition. At the booth of Fraunhofer UMSICHT from Sulzbach-Rosenberg interested visitors can get an explanation of the iCycle® technology developed by UMSICHT. Dr. Peter Hense and his team are looking forward to your visit.
The iCycle process enables recyclers to recover metals, fibres and energy from composite materials such as electrical scrap, end-of-life vehicles or fibre-reinforced plastics. The process makes it possible to expose metals and/or fibers contained in the waste without oxidation and at the same time to recover liquid and gaseous energy sources. While the energy sources can be used to heat the process as well as to generate electricity and heat, the metals or fibres can be recycled to a high quality material. Particular attention is paid to residual materials from the processing of old electrical appliances, for example. In this way, metal concentrates can be profitably produced from the shredder residues resulting from processing, which can then be sold to copper smelters, for example.
