The demand for the technologies of Fraunhofer UMSICHT in Canada is huge. Canada is therefore a strategically important location. The spin-off company of Fraunhofer UMSICHT »Susteen Technologies Canada Ltd.« has created a connection to potential customers in Canada. The spin-off focuses on thermo-chemical conversion processes, offering solutions for the efficient generation of electricity and heat, as well as other sustainable products from biomass and plastic residues. The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft has granted Susteen Technologies GmbH an exclusive worldwide license to the TCR® technology for the treatment of biomass and waste residues for the production of sustainable fuels. Since the end of March 2016 there is also a spin-off in England with »Susteen Technologies UK« established.

7th International Bioenergy Conference and Exhibition in Canada

The International Bioenergy Conference and Exhibition in Prince George, British Columbia in Canada was a successful start point for Fraunhofer UMSICHT and Susteen Technologies Canada Ltd. (15th-17th June 2016). There they could make new contacts and present themselves to trade specialists. »We are pleased with our first trade show in Canada and the demand for the TCR® technology was high« reported Bruce Hillen, Executive Director of Susteen Technologies Canada Inc. The spin-off in Canada is the result of many years of research, know-how and market demand. Professor Dr. Andreas Hornung, Director of the Institute Branch Sulzbach-Rosenberg of Fraunhofer UMSICHT, decisively developed the TCR® technology. He and his team in Sulzbach-Rosenberg successfully tested since 2013 a pilot plant scale (up to 2 kg/h) and a wide variety of feedstocks. At the Fraunhofer Institute UMSICHT a pilot plant with a continuous feed capacity of approximately 30 kg/h is also constructed.

First international customer projects

Susteen Technologies is actively developing biomass applications based on TCR® technology and provides the design and delivery of TCR® reactor plants. First customer projects from Susteen Technologies have already been won in Italy and Switzerland. Now Fraunhofer UMSICHT and the spin-off Susteen Technologies Canada Ltd. will serve the Canadian market.
