Summer Symposium at Fraunhofer UMSICHT

On Thursday, 29.06.2017, the summer symposium of Fraunhofer UMSICHT took place in Sulzbach-Rosenberg. This year's event was under the motto »UMSICHT visible! Regional and international«.

Around 150 partners, customers and invited guests from politics and economy participated in the celebration. District Councilor Richard Reisinger, First Mayor of Sulzbach-Rosenberg Michael Göth and Prof. Dr. Andrea Klug, President of the OTH Amberg-Weiden. Not only from the region, but also from Germany, Italy, the Czech Republic and England, the guests traveled to inform themselves about the new technologies of Fraunhofer UMSICHT.

Together with the external speakers Fraunhofer UMSICHT presented regional and international projects. It was thus possible for the guests to find out more about the large project in Kuwait, which Dr. Peter Degener, research assistant at Fraunhofer UMSICHT, presented. Prof. Dr. Stefan Beer, OTH Amberg-Weiden, reported on the »CFD for Energy Process Engineering. Common R&D-Projects of Fraunhofer UMSICHT and OTH Amberg-Weiden«.In England, Fraunhofer UMSICHT, together with the University of Birmingham, has opened a research platform in May 2017, as well as the major project »Energy City Birmingham« started there. These two projects were presented by Miloud Ouadi, group leader for UK of Fraunhofer UMSICHT, and David Boardman, University of Birmingham. The co-operation with the University of Bologna in Italy has existed since 2014 and a long-term, successful cooperation has developed. Prof. Andrea Contin from the University of Bologna gave a talk on this good cooperation. Thorsten Hornung, Managing Director of Susteen Technologies GmbH, reported on the large-scale project with the Schwandorf waste-to-energy plant and the success story of TCR® technology. Susteen Technologies GmbH is a spin-off of Fraunhofer UMSICHT.

In addition to the lectures, Fraunhofer UMSICHT opened its technics and the specialist departments on their products and services. The summer symposium was a good way to exchange and network with subsequent come-together with food, music and music. In good mood and pleasant temperatures were celebrated together with the guests. The festival was organized by Helmut Heinl, Christoph Ultsch, Susanne Lettner and Andrea Farmer.

»We are pleased that many people have found their way to Sulzbach-Rosenberg and we have been able to demonstrate our regional, but also worldwide, networking with our partners« said Prof. Dr. Andreas Hornung, Director of Fraunhofer UMSICHT in Sulzbach-Rosenberg. The performance of the research facility was applauded by the guests with a lot of applause and the great political presence of representatives from municipalities, counties and cities showed the importance of the research location for the region.
