TCR® technology for the UK market

On Tuesday, March 14, 2017, a container with TCR® technology left the research institute Fraunhofer UMSICHT. The container contains a TCR®80 system (with an output of 80 kg per hour), which goes to England. The development and construction of the plant was carried out jointly by Fraunhofer UMSICHT and its own spin-off Susteen Technologies GmbH. The small industrial pilot plant is now used in England to develop applications for the English market through local partners and the Susteen Technologies UK branch.

The thermo-catalytic reforming (short: TCR®) was decisively developed by Prof. Dr. Andreas Hornung, director of Fraunhofer UMSICHT in Sulzbach-Rosenberg, and his team. With the TCR® process, products of unprecedented quality can be obtained from different raw materials (for example, sewage sludge, horse stock, green waste or food residues). The thermo-catalytic reforming TCR® creates the three products oil, gas or coal, which can be used further. The Fraunhofer spin-off Susteen Technologies GmbH, which is located in Sulzbach-Rosenberg, also takes over the marketing of the specially developed TCR® technology. Due to the large global demand for Fraunhofer UMSICHT's TCR® technology, Susteen has established further spin-offs in Canada and the UK in order to be able to serve customers on-site.
