Fraunhofer UMSICHT will be taking part in PRC Europe 2026 in Amsterdam with a presentation by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Matthias Franke, Head of the Sulzbach-Rosenberg branch, on the topic of  » Conversion of biogenic residues and waste into sustainable refinery and cracker feedstock«.


In this presentation, Matthias Franke outlines an integrated thermochemical conversion process for the production of co-refinable pyrolysis oils, which are derived from a wide range of biogenic waste materials and offer significant carbon sequestration potential through by-products for the petrochemical industry.

TCR technology for scalable biofuels

The globally patented TCR technology is capable of producing a bio-based crude oil that is compatible with the full range of conventional refinery products, including diesel, petrol, marine fuels, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and naphtha. A pre-commercial plant with a throughput of 12 tonnes per day is already in operation and is providing data and operational experience relevant to scaling, process integration and product qualification. The session will also present opportunities for collaboration with industrial players in the form of test campaigns, large-scale demonstration activities and subsequent commercialisation pathways.

Stakeholders from the downstream industry will gather at PRC Europe to develop strategies and technological perspectives for the transformation of the downstream industry. Representatives from oil companies, EPC contractors, refineries and petrochemical plants, chemical companies, licensors, service providers and equipment manufacturers will explore and discuss key topics relating to the decarbonisation of the industry, the production of SAF and alternative fuels, circular economy initiatives, the hydrogen ecosystem, plant optimisation and much more.
