Dr. Thomas Fehn to give a talk on the EU project AUTOLOOP – Closed-Loop Recycling of Mixed Polyester-Based Textiles
Fraunhofer UMSICHT will be presenting a talk at the Textiles Recycling Expo Europe in Brussels.
Dr. Thomas Fehn, Head of the Thermochemical Conversion Technologies Group, will be presenting the AUTOLOOP project. Fraunhofer UMSICHT is responsible for the chemical recycling of synthetic textile fibres (PET) into new basic chemicals.
The AUTOLOOP project aims to establish a system that could recycle 1.24 million tonnes of textile waste annually by 2050 and potentially create over 130,000 jobs across the EU. To this end, automated sorting, traceability and closed-loop recycling technologies for polyester-based textiles are being developed, tested and integrated into a circular system to tackle the urgent challenge of textile waste disposal.
