Dr. Robert Daschner with a lecture on »Utilizing waste biomass via innovative thermochemical conversion to produce high quality products«

Fraunhofer UMSICHT is participating in BIOKET 2026 (BIOeconomy Key Enabling Technologies) in Fribourg (Switzerland), organised by Bioeconomy for Change. In his presentation, Robert Daschner, Head of the Advanced Carbon Conversion Technologies department, will talk about an innovative approach to producing stable, high-quality pyrolysis oils from biogenic residues. These serve as an alternative, non-fossil carbon source for the petrochemical industry. The presentation will focus in particular on applications in the plastics sector and on marine fuels produced from bio-oils.

Thermo-Catalytic Reforming: Sustainable carbon source for plastics and marine fuels

In his presentation, Robert Daschner will introduce an innovative approach to producing pyrolysis oils from biogenic residues as a non-fossil carbon source for the petrochemical industry.

The focus will be on thermo-catalytic reforming (TCR) technology, a combined pyrolysis and reforming process. A method will be presented that efficiently produces high-quality bio-oil, H2-rich synthesis gas and biochar from biogenic residues. The pyrolysis oils enable applications particularly in the plastics sector and for marine fuels from bio-oil. Initial promising results from pilot tests, such as the high oil quality, will be explained in more detail in the presentation.

BIOKET, short for BIOeconomy Key Enabling Technologies, is a global event that focuses on the processes and technologies used in the utilisation of biomass.

This event was initiated to fill a niche and highlight the key enabling technologies (KETs) that are essential for converting biomass into high value-added products. BIOKET focuses on technologies that drive industrial modernisation and the transition to a greener economy.
