Pyroliq 2019: Pyrolysis and Liquefaction of Biomass and Wastes

Prof. Andreas Hornung, head of the Sulzbach-Rosenberg branch of Fraunhofer UMSICHT, will be represented at Pyroliq 2019. He will present a lecture entitled "EN-fuels from solid waste biomass by thermo-catalytic reforming".

Background Fraunhofer TCR process

Synthetic fuels based on waste biomass also have the advantage that the raw materials do not compete with agricultural land used for food production. The TCR process (Thermo-Catalytic-Reforming) developed by Prof. Hornung together with Fraunhofer and the Fraunhofer spin-off "Susteen" can use sewage sludge as well as a broad base of biomasses and residues, for example wood residues, fermentation residues from biogas plants, waste from beverage and paper production or municipal biowaste fractions.

In addition to high-quality oil as an intermediate product for fuel production, the TCR process produces product gas and biochar. These components can be used for energy production or as soil conditioners.

The Pyroliq Conference

The conference will provide a forum for discussion on progress in the pyrolysis and liquefaction of biomass, organic residues and waste to intermediate products such as bio-oil, biochar, biogas and roasted materials. These include slow, medium and fast pyrolysis, hydropyrolysis, solvent liquefaction and hydrothermal processing. A special topic this year will be the pyrolysis of waste of fossil origin, such as plastics.
